Your customers are DESPERATE to be lied to. So lie to them.

In my 20’s, I was convinced we were doing kids a terrible disservice with this Santa Claus nonsense.

Organised deception of children! I was vehemently opposed. And then something happened:

I had kids.

Suddenly …. all my Santa Claus convictions …. went out the window. I recognised my kids had a deep need to believe in magic, and magicians, and rabbits being pulled out of hats. If I deprived them of that, I did them no favours.

But I also encouraged them to think for themselves. They figured the facts out on their own.

Lies first, truth after.

“You can’t handle the truth!” Good old Sir Jack of Nicholson.

People fundamentally can’t believe in themselves. YOU may know where their solution lies. But THEY don’t. They have to be shown, by a guru, a saint, a hero, an IDOL …. They must first be fooled …. before they’ll understand that idolatry is worthless. Ain’t no short-cuts.

And YOU …. if you really want to serve your tribe …. will ACCEPT the wizard’s hat, not buck it.

Dr Phil did this for psychotherapists and messed-up people. Brooke Castillo does it for life coaches. Vince Delmonte does it for body builders and gym owners. Laughing all the way to the bank, btw. While helping their customers be successful.

Don the hat, Gandalf.

Yeah, it cuts against the grain. You can enlighten them later.

They’ll still be your friends. (For life, actually.)
