I have discovered 5 magic power tools for reducing stress AND self-doubt.

They will work equally well for you, IF …

You plug them in.

So promise me: YOU’RE GOING TO PLUG THEM IN

Here they are:

#1: Nobody writes my script except me

New Year’s Day, 1992. Life was looking up.

Sitting in Guelph General hospital, holding a two-day-old baby girl (mine), I suddenly realized:

If I screw this up, this little one suffers.

The previous 2 years had been the blackest hell. (Too painful to describe.) Suddenly there was daylight.

But until then, I had been the character in a play written by somebody else.

Time to write the play.

And from here on …. nobody else writes it.

#2: Everyone has a monster named INGE inside them

(INGE = I’m Not Good Enough.)

Someone growled at you?

It’s not you they’re reacting to. It’s the INGE inside them.

Recognize that. Don’t take it personally.

My friend and coach Bill Rabow taught me this. He’s internalised it so much now, he says it’s almost impossible for anyone to hurt him.

Once you really get this … it’s much easier to:

#3: Forgive Everybody

Your mom? Dad? Sibling? Ex? Boss?

Let them off the hook.

Not because they deserve it. They don’t.

Because YOU deserve it.

#4: Forgive yourSELF

Same as #3, just applied internally.

Let yourself off the hook.

Especially for failing The Superman Standard of Perfection.

#5: Conclude slowly

First impressions are usually misleading.

They’re not wrong, they’re just not the whole story. And a more complete story will emerge if you wait.

Or maybe, it’s not your business to be passing judgement at all.

Plugging in these Power Tools will do wonders for your stress levels.
