Greg shared his 6-step tried-and-tested strategy for building a community-based startup:

1️⃣ Go To @Reddit, Find A SubReddit

Pick one with >50,000 Redditurs

Example: FatFIRE

Example: @SweatyStartup (got started after hanging around a SubReddit for a year)

2️⃣ Join It.

ENGAGE LIKE CRAZY. 1–2 hours/day, for several months.

Pay close attention not only to WHAT they say, but to HOW & WHEN they say it. Be HUMAN👨‍👦‍👦👩‍👧‍👧

Learn their lingo, habits, practices, values.

These are clues to the culture.

3️⃣ Learn What They Want & Value

The Filter by Flair feature on the right-hand side of the SubReddit will clue you to trending topics, that will be useful in Step 4️⃣.

4️⃣ Create A New Space For Closer Conversation With A Sub-Species

Could be a @Discord server, a @SlackHQ channel.

eg: Create a new FatFIRE-for-45-year-olds space.

5️⃣ Build (or Write!) Something For Them

6️⃣ Build/Co-Build On Top Of What You Built

Launch, tweak, launch, tweak, launch, tweak ….

THAT’S IT

The theme is, Go Deeper And Narrower

Human Beans tend to think zero-sum. If I go narrower, the space gets smaller, yadda, yadda.

Less conversation, less revenue potential.

But the REVERSE IS TRUE.

As you go narrower, the Space gets bigger.
