All your Info-Stress is symptomatic of a real problem. (Rejoice! Great problem to have.)
My inbox is loaded with at least 20 new emails every day. I have time to read half.
Usually 1–2 emails tell me about a new Substack newsletter I can subscribe to.
There are dozens (hundreds) of new essays and threads.
Never mind the tweets. (Millions.)
I’ve quit trying to keep up with my Facebook “friends” and LinkedIn colleagues.
I have no idea how many TV channels there are.
Went into the supermarket yesterday to buy mayonnaise. Over a dozen brands to choose from.
I only needed one.
Fortunately there were only 6 different kinds of milk.
THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM! THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!
Yes it is. No it isn’t.
Actually it’s a great problem to have. You simply haven’t learned to handle it.
The problem is …. ABUNDANCE.
Every new email, newsletter, tweet, brand of mayonnaise ….
… is another decision you have to make.
And you’ve been raised to think …. Everything is SCARCE.
You Must Make ALL THOSE DECISIONS.
Every unmade decision is an opportunity lost. Right?
WRONG.
You just haven’t learned ….
The skill of Deciding Which Decisions To Make.
Which decisions matter ….
And which don’t.
ABUNDANCE IS A GREAT PROBLEM TO HAVE. Our ancestors weren’t so lucky.
So tomorrow morning ….
You have a Critical Decision to Make:
Which decisions you really, really, REALLY need to make today.
(There should only be 2–5.)
The rest …. Can Wait.
(Or better yet …. Not Be Made, Ever.)
